Karim brings over 15 years of experience in Restructuring and Insolvency across many sectors including real estate, retail, oil and gas, financial services, manufacturing, industrial groups, and automotive. His extensive expertise in a mature market (France), complemented with turnaround funds experience, allows him to bring a wide-angled view to each engagement.
He was recently responsible for developing turnaround proposals, insolvency mandates, distressed M&A, rapid cost reduction, cash management, cash forecasting, contingency planning, and financial transformation. He also led the financial transformation of a distressed retail group with a turnover of €800m and 3,200 employees, comprising 9 factories and 126 points of sale in France.
Furthermore, Karim was seconded from France to the UAE to lead on high profile liquidations, initiation of legal proceedings on behalf of creditors, distressed M&A, financial modelling and the restructure of groups with complex lending structures. He has been recognised for his ability to independently carry out several IBRs (“Independent Business Reviews”) for distressed companies to analyze the current and projected financial position on behalf of lenders and other financial partners.
Prior to joining Grant Thornton UAE, Karim worked for Mutares, a European private equity fund specializing in turnaround and restructuring. He also has over fifteen years of experience between one of the Big 4 firms, Eight Advisory and Grant Thornton France, specialising in debt and restructuring advisory.
Karim holds an Accounting and Finance Diploma from the French National Education. He also holds an Advanced Technical Diploma in Accounting issued by the IFCA School in France. He is a member of the Association of Young Professionals of Restructuring (AJR).
